IBAN

International Bank Account Number: standard identifier of a European bank account. In Spain it's 24 alphanumeric characters.

Definition

The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is the standardised identifier of a bank account on a European and international scale. In Spain it has 24 characters: ES (country code) + 2 check digits + 4 bank digits + 4 branch digits + 2 check digits + 10 account digits.

For a sports club, the club's IBAN (current account opened in the entity's name) is required to: receive fees by SEPA and Stripe, transfer to federation and suppliers, receive grants and act as creditor in SEPA debits. It must appear on invoices and formal communications.

When does it apply?

Applies from the opening of the club's bank account (just after obtaining provisional NIF). Every formal operation flows through the IBAN: receipts, payments, grant justification. Changing IBAN (bank switch) requires reviewing SEPA mandates, updating Stripe Connect and notifying federation and tax authority.

Practical example

C.D. Voleibol Levante's IBAN is ES21 2100 1234 56 7890123456 (CaixaBank). It appears on every invoice issued, on the public website, on transfer receipts sent to the federation and on SEPA mandates where it appears as creditor. The club's SEPA creditor identifier (CSB) ES12CLUBE0123456 is composed partially with IBAN data.
